Everything we make is made by hand in Brisbane by Kendall Krisanski, in batches small enough to watch from start to finish.
Tallow fell out of fashion when cheaper, more shelf-stable alternatives arrived, not because it stopped working. Its fatty acid profile sits close to that of human skin, which is why it tends to absorb rather than sit on the surface.
It also does a lot with very little. A short list of good ingredients behaves better than a long list of adequate ones, and tallow is the reason our lists can be as short as they are.
We start with suet from Australian pasture-raised cattle — the hard fat from around the kidneys, which renders cleaner than trimmings do.
It goes low and slow, over several hours. Rushing it with heat is what makes tallow smell like a kitchen, and no amount of essential oil covers that up afterwards. Then it's filtered, and filtered again, until what's left is pale and close to odourless.
Only then does it get whipped — with jojoba to lighten it, castor oil for slip, and a little beeswax to hold the texture.
Five ingredients or fewer in most jars. Every one of them is doing something, and if we can't say what, it isn't in there.
Our balms, cleanser and serum contain no water at all. That means they need no preservative system — not as a marketing position, but because there's nothing in them for anything to grow in.
Batches are small because one person makes them. Kendall renders, whips, fills and labels every jar in Brisbane, and each batch is dated by hand.
It's a slower way to work and it doesn't scale neatly, which is the trade. What you get instead is product that was made recently, by someone who was paying attention.
